Calfkiller River Restoration Project

Project Details

Calfkiller River

TBG has established a working group, including the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and the US Fish and Wildlife Service, to restore a mile-long reach on the Calfkiller River in Tennessee. The site is critical habitat for Bluemasked Darters and Cumberland Pigtoe mussels, both federally listed species. Historic channel straightening and ranching has degraded instream and floodplain conditions, leading to the extirpation of both species.

The surrounding watershed is protected by over 2,000 acres of TBG conservation easements allowing our restoration impacts to compound. TBG is currently working to secure funding for design and implementation of the project which is slated for construction in 2024.
