Project Details
TBG developed the mitigation banking documents, which are currently under agency review for the finalization of an approved mitigation bank. The current design includes restoring and enhancing approximately 1,500 acres of ditched and drained former wetlands amongst pine savanna and bedded pine including representative longleaf pine stands.
To date, TBG has installed an array of 70 data-loggers to assess groundwater behavior and collected high resolution LiDAR to inform hydraulic modeling and engineering designs. TBG is consulting with the IRT (USACE, USEPA, USFWS and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources).
Following field visits, the IRT is modifying their protocols to reward the project because of the immense potential to benefit the endangered Flatwood Salamander. Mitigation prescriptions include timber stand improvement, brush management, tree and shrub planting, grading, ditch plugging, invasive species control, and early successional and upland habitat management.
