Buffalo Darter Mitigation Bank. Buffalo Darter, LLC. Hickman County, Tennessee.

TBG developed the Mitigation Banking documents, which are currently under agency review for the finalization of an approved mitigation bank. The current design includes restoring and enhancing approximately 48,121 linear feet of mining and silviculture-impacted stream resources within the forested 876-acre property. TBG has been consulting with the IRT (USACE, USEPA, USFWS and Tennessee Department of Environmental Quality) during the life of the project.

SELECTED PROJECT EXPERIENCE

(*denotes project experience prior to TBG)

Calfkiller River Restoration Project. Putnam County, Tennessee.

TBG has established a working group including the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and the US Fish and Wildlife Service to restore a mile long reach on the Calfkiller River in Tennessee. The site is critical habitat for Bluemasked Darters and Cumberland Pigtoe mussels, both federally listed species. Historic channel straightening and ranching has degraded instream and floodplain conditions leading to extirpation of both species.

The surrounding watershed is protected by over 2,000 acres of TBG conservation easements allowing our restoration impacts to compound. TBG is currently working to secure funding for design and implementation of the project which is slated for construction in 2024.

"A river cuts through rock, not because of its power, but because of its persistence." - Jim Watkins

"Water is the driving force of all nature." - Leonardo da Vinci

"Mitigation is the bridge that connects our actions today to a sustainable future for generations to come, ensuring that streams continue to flow and thrive."

"Every drop that we conserve, every action that we take to mitigate, has the power to shape the destiny of streams and the landscapes they grace."

Chelsea Plantation Mitigation Bank. Chelsea Plantation, LLC. Beaufort County, South Carolina.

TBG developed the mitigation banking documents, which are currently under agency review for the finalization of an approved mitigation bank. The current design includes restoring and enhancing approximately 1,500 acres of ditched and drained former wetlands amongst pine savanna and bedded pine including representative longleaf pine stands.

To date, TBG has installed an array of 70 data-loggers to assess groundwater behavior and collected high resolution LiDAR to inform hydraulic modeling and engineering designs. TBG is consulting with the IRT (USACE, USEPA, USFWS and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources).

Following field visits, the IRT is modifying their protocols to reward the project because of the immense potential to benefit the endangered Flatwood Salamander. Mitigation prescriptions include timber stand improvement, brush management, tree and shrub planting, grading, ditch plugging, invasive species control, and early successional and upland habitat management.

Diamond C Ranch Mitigation Bank. Diamond C Ranch, LLC. Jackson County, Georgia.

TBG developed the Mitigation Banking documents, which are currently under agency review for the finalization of an approved mitigation bank. The current design includes restoring and enhancing approximately 42,322 linear feet of stream resources impacted by agriculture within the 413-acre ranch property. TBG has been consulting with the IRT (USACE, USEPA, USFWS and Georgia Department of Environmental Quality) during the life of the project.

Teton Spring Creek–In-Leu Fee Program. Teton County, Montana.

TBG was contracted by Montana Freshwater Partners to prepare a design for an in-lieu fee restoration project. The current design includes restoring and enhancing approximately 4,000 linear feet of stream resources using low-tech processed-based restoration techniques. TBG will be involved with construction and implementation in 2024.
